Gen. Katumba Announces Karuma Bridge Closure for All Traffic

The Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala has announced the total closure of Karuma bridge for all road traffic.

Gen. Katumbaโ€™s decision followed his inspection of the bridge on Tuesday and realized that it has become more dangerous to all users.

He says the total closure will be effected on Monday, September 23, 2024. He has however given alternative routes for the road users, as per his communication on X, a few hours ago.

โ€œAfter inspection, I have decided and announced the closure ofย ๐Š๐š๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐šย ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ ๐žย ๐ญ๐จย ๐€๐‹๐‹ย ๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ข๐œย startingย ๐Œ๐จ๐ง๐๐š๐ฒย ๐’๐ž๐ฉ๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซย ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‘๐ซ๐,ย ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’. The contractor will start the demolition of the concrete deck immediately to allow major works for its restoration, an exercise expected to last three months.

Alternative Routes 1. Motorists from Kampala heading to Gulu/West Nile are advised to use Luwero – Kafu – Masindi – Paraa (Murchison Falls National Park) to connect to Pakwach or Gulu via Olwiyo and vice versa from motorists from Gulu/West Nile. 2. Motorists to Lira can use the Rwenkunye – Apac route via Masindi Port Ferry 3. Motorists to Lira can also use Iganga – Nakalama – Tirinyi – Pallisa – Kumi – Soroti -Lira and vice versa.
