The new East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) force Commander Maj. Gen. Alaphaxard Muthuri Kiugu has expressed gratitude at the work done by the joint East African Community Regional Force heads of states in DRC towards promoting peace in the region.
Maj. Gen. Kuigu promised the residents of Goma town of the assured security in the city and encouraged them to continue with their economic and social activities.
He however told them that EACRF is in DRC to provide peace as mandated by the East African Community Regional Force Heads of State.
The new Commander pledged to serve with honour and promised cooperation and consultation among the Commanders of EACRF.
“I thank you for the hard work, enforcing security in the region and making strides to improve on the security of the civilians,” Gen. Kiugu said.
He also applauded the government of Congo for entrusting him and allowing him to take EACRF on another step on issues concerning security in Congo, by leading and guiding them at the strategic level. He encouraged his commanders to carry out frequent review of work and consult in case of any need.
The takeover of Command took place May 18, 2023 at the joint EACRF Headquarters in Goma town which is the capital city of North Kivu Province.
The function was attended by Congolese government and army officials, the Deputy force Commander, the Uganda Contingent Commander Col. Michael Walaka Hyreba and Commanders from other contingents, among others.
