The man who had raised me as a father since childhood and supported my education decided to conduct a DNA test to confirm our relationship.

My name is Jackson Nuwamanya, a third-year medical student at Kabale University pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. Becoming a medical doctor has always been my dream—a dream to serve communities, save lives, and give hope to those in need.
But in my second year, second semester, that dream almost came to an end because of a DNA test.
The man who had raised me as a father since childhood and supported my education decided to conduct a DNA test to confirm our relationship. Unfortunately, the results came back negative. After receiving the results, he withdrew all the care and financial support he had been providing for my education.
In a moment, my entire life changed.
Without anyone to pay my tuition, I had no option but to request a dead year from the university. It was one of the most difficult decisions I had ever made, but continuing with my studies without financial support was impossible.
During that year, I moved to Lira and worked in a restaurant, hoping to save some money to resume my studies. I worked hard, but the income was very small and could not meet the high cost of medical school tuition.
Despite the setbacks, I refused to give up on my dream.
In July 2025, I requested permission from the administration of Kabale University to conduct a fundraising campaign to raise tuition fees so that I could return to school. The university granted me permission, and I began reaching out to well-wishers for support. However, the process was difficult and time-consuming. I spent much of my time fundraising, leaving little time for my classes.

Just when things seemed most uncertain, something life-changing happened.
During the semester, I received a call from the Tumusiime Mutebile Foundation through Mrs. Angella. That call brought light into one of the darkest moments of my life. She informed me that the foundation had considered me for a scholarship.
At that moment, everything changed.
The scholarship lifted the heavy burden of tuition from my shoulders and restored my hope of completing my medical education. It reminded me that even in the darkest moments, there are people and institutions willing to support those who refuse to give up on their dreams.
Today, I continue my studies with renewed determination. My dream remains the same—to become a doctor who serves communities, saves lives, and gives back to society.
I sincerely extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Tumusiime Mutebile Foundation for believing in me and giving me a second chance to pursue my dream. Their support did not just pay my tuition—it brought light back into my life.
