The Minister of State for General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Justine Kasule Lumumba has called on highly educated professionals hailing from Busoga to use their educational expertise to guide Busoga communities on achieving their development goals.
Lumumba said PhD holders are regarded as being the most knowledgeable in all aspects, and considered as having the ability to guide society to transform their areas economically and morally.
“Busoga is still lagging behind and bogged in absolute poverty and ignorance, this is partly due to lack of guidance to the communities; my humble appeal to the few professors we have in the region is to start volunteering their guidance to the leaders and residents where necessary,” she said.
She was presiding over the graduation ceremony of Nakavule parish priest in Iganga municipality, Rev. Samson Basome who attained a PhD in education from the University of Eastern African Boraton in Kenya.
Lumumba expressed dissatisfaction with most of the political leaders in the region whom she said she helped to achieve their political goals but have turned their backs on her and turned her into an enemy.
Without mentioning names, Lumumba said she has however forgiven such people because she added, she is a devout Christian.
She however expressed gratitude to Kigulu South legislator, Milton Muwuma and Iganga district chairperson, Hajji Abubaker Walubi for being appreciative to her generosity. However, she did not elaborate further about Walubi’s generosity.
MP Muwuma hailed Lumumba for helping many people in the region without discrimination. He cited lobbying for sh50m from President Museveni towards activities for Busoga Diocese formalization, donation of iron sheets to various schools and churches in Iganga district, as well as assistance to individuals including the graduate Basome.
And the district chairperson Walubi commended Rev. Basome for championing various development projects in parishes where he has served, saying this has benefited both the flocks and the community.
The fresh graduate Basome hailed God for attainment of a PhD despite life challenging experiences including losing both parents at the tender age of 11.
The event which was held at his home at Busei village in Nakalama sub-county was attended by a cross section of people including educationists, political and religious leaders led by Rev. Dr. Patrick John Magumba who represented Bishop Patrick Wakula.
Dr. Magumba urged people to always thank God whenever they make any achievement in life.
