LOP Ssenyonyi Visits Katikkiro, Supports Kabaka’s Birthday Run with sh21m

The Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LOP) Joel Ssenyonyi has led some of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Members of Parliament, party leadership and other members to Bulange Mengo to meet the Katikkiro of Buganda.

Ssenyonyi has declared the party’s allegiance to the Kabaka of Buganda and the Buganda government as a whole saying that for that effect, they have decided to support his move of the Kabaka’s birthday run.

Through the annual event, Ssenyonyi says the Kabaka has used the exercise to mobilize funds which he has for years used to fight noble causes more so the killer diseases like HIV/AIDS.

“I therefore take this honor to rally men to take the lead in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Let us champion the cause to end the spread of AIDS before 2030, a global target,” he said.

The Leader of Opposition has been accompanied with the NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya and delivered to Katikkiro a support of sh21m towards the Kabaka’s birthday run.

Katikkiro Mayiga has called upon politicians and their supporters to also join the fight against HIV/AIDS.

He says politics will not be possible if AIDS is persistent, killing all Ugandans saying even their target of taking leadership will be less effective.

“If all Ugandans die because of AIDS, who will vote for you and who will you lead? Let’s fight HIV/AIDS for the good of our country. If we reach 2030 when HIV is no more in Uganda, the Kabaka will have a reason to celebrate,” he says.

Meanwhile, Katikkiro Mayiga emphasized that Buganda Kingdom is open to everyone regardless of their political affiliation.

‘’Kabaka is not only for Baganda but for Buganda because we are a nation,’’ Katikkiro said.

Katikkiro thanked the Leader of opposition for his devotion towards the development of the kingdom and praised his exemplary leadership.
