Uganda Cranes players have received a Sh30 million cash reward from Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba following their 1-0 victory over Libya in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at Hoima City Stadium.
The money was delivered by Kasambya MP and Patriot League of Uganda (PLU) Office of the National Chairman Daudi Kabanda and received by Cranes captain Denis Onyango on behalf of the team.
The presentation was witnessed by State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang and FUFA president Moses Magogo.
The reward came after debutant Arnold Vula scored the only goal as Uganda edged Libya 1-0 on Tuesday, earning maximum points in their second Group H match.
Vula’s goal capped a determined performance by the Cranes, who had earlier held Tunisia to a 1-1 draw in their opening qualifier in Radès, with Rogers Mato scoring Uganda’s equaliser.
The victory lifted Uganda to four points from two matches and put the Cranes at the top of Group H. Libya, meanwhile, remained on one point after also drawing 2-2 with Botswana in their opening match.

The Hoima victory was also significant as it marked Uganda’s first international fixture at the newly built Hoima City Stadium, one of the venues earmarked for the 2027 AFCON tournament.
The Cranes are scheduled to face the Democratic Republic of Congo in two international friendly matches in Johannesburg on October 2 and 5 as preparations for the 2027 tournament continue.
