The Mukono District Health Department has directed head teachers and school administrators to allow children to receive measles and rubella vaccinations as part of the ongoing mass immunisation campaign in the district.
The directive was issued by Mukono District Health Officer Dr Stephen Mulindwa in a notice addressed to head teachers and the general public.
Dr Mulindwa said health teams conducting the campaign do not require individual parental consent before vaccinating eligible children.
He urged teaching staff to cooperate with health workers and ensure children are available for vaccination when the teams visit schools.

The health department said the campaign is intended to protect children against measles and rubella, diseases that can cause serious complications and death if not prevented or treated appropriately.
“All head teachers and the general public are informed that we don’t need to request for consent for the child to be vaccinated,” the notice states.

The health department has provided telephone contacts for members of the public seeking clarification about the campaign.
