Giving further account of the district’s service provision, he said it is one of the biggest operating on a sh170bn in the 2025-2026 financial year, up from sh116bn the previous year.

Mukono district administration is in the process of organizing a grand celebration to mark 45 years of its existence since it was formed in 1980 and, according to the district chairperson, Rev. Dr. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa, the administration will then give an accountability of achievements scored.

This was revealed by Rev. Bakaluba during a prayer service for the district’s achievements including remarkable success in continuing the work of completion of the district administration block which has encountered a series of stalling phases since beginning of construction in the early 1990s.

Bakaluba expressed appreciation for the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMPA) for its contribution towards construction of the building, upgrading roads and other projects, and disclosed that Mukono is the first district to extend tarmacked roads in the remotest areas, citing Ntenjeru – Bule road.

Giving further account of the district’s service provision, he said it is one of the biggest operating on a sh170bn in the 2025-2026 financial year, up from sh116bn the previous year.

“When we came into office, we were operating on a sh55bn to sh56bn budget and in our opinion, this is tremendous development.

The chairman said the new block requires close to sh2.5bn to be completed with facilities including a council hall, speaker’s office and other amenities.

In his homily, the Bishop for Mukono Diocese, The Rt. Rev. Enos Kitto Kagodo appealed to workers to be committed in service delivery, and to be proud whenever there is someone who benefits from their services.

Bp. Kagodo observed that today, there is movement in the education, medical, transport and other sectors because the relevant authorities in those areas have taken the trouble to ensure that roads, schools, health units and other service provision amenities are in place.

“God placed us wherever we are for a reason, and that is the reason why your absence from office creates loopholes which deny others access to your services; in a similar manner, God picked on the biblical Jonah to go and alert the people of Nineveh of the imminent danger of destruction of their city although the devil attempted to divert Jonah from his mission”, the prelate observed.

He called on civil servants not to despair in their calling, giving them the assurance that God recognises and appreciates any good thing they put in place in the execution of their work.

Earlier, the Diocesan Head of Resource Mobilisation Department, Rev. Merewooma Sserwanja who assisted the bishop, called on believers to continue contributing towards construction of the sh9bn Mukono Cathedral which he said is designed to seat 3,000 people at a time, with a chapel of a 500 seating capacity.

Merewooma reminded Christians that by contributing towards this work, they are boosting their reward from heaven, and urged them not to be fatigued.
