Members of the public have been advised to remain within their local communities during the exercise, participate in cleaning activities and only resume normal movements after the restrictions are lifted at 10:00 a.m.
The Uganda Police Force has reminded the public that the National Cleaning Day will be observed on Saturday, July 25, 2026, with nationwide traffic restrictions set to take effect between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
In a public notice, police said the exercise is part of the Government of Uganda’s initiative to promote environmental cleanliness, improve public health, and prevent diseases linked to poor sanitation.
The force has called upon all citizens, traders, motorists, institutions and community leaders to actively participate in the three-hour community cleaning exercise and comply with the government’s directive.

As part of the implementation measures, police announced that the movement of vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles and water vessels will be suspended during the exercise, except for emergency situations. Traffic movement will therefore be restricted across the country from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

Police, however, clarified that several categories of road users will be exempted from the restrictions. These include emergency services such as ambulances and patients travelling for scheduled medical treatment, provided they carry the necessary medical documentation. Medical personnel have also been advised to carry valid identification while on duty.
Security vehicles undertaking official assignments and cross-border commercial traffic using major transport corridors will also be allowed to operate during the restricted period.
The Uganda Police Force has appealed to the public to cooperate with security personnel deployed to enforce the directive and avoid confrontations. Members of the public with concerns have been encouraged to seek assistance from the nearest police officer or supervisor on duty.
The National Cleaning Day forms part of the government’s broader efforts to improve sanitation and encourage communities across the country to take collective responsibility for maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
