LUGAZI, Uganda – The Catholic Church in Lugazi Diocese has rescheduled the start of its ordination Mass from the customary 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. following the government’s National Cleaning Day, which will be observed on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
In a letter dated July 24, 2026, the Diocese’s Vicar General, Msgr. Richard Kayondo, writing on behalf of the Bishop of Lugazi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Christopher Kakooza, said the change was necessitated by nationwide traffic restrictions announced by the Uganda Police Force.
Police said movement of vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles and water vessels will be restricted from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., except for emergency services, as part of the government’s National Cleaning Day campaign. The exercise is intended to promote environmental cleanliness, improve public health and prevent diseases associated with poor sanitation.

“Following the above communication by the Uganda Police, we let you know about this abrupt change in time of our ordination Mass. Our function, however, remains on the same day but will instead start at midday,” the Vicar General wrote.
The ordination Mass will be held at Mary Queen of Peace Cathedral at the Lugazi Diocesan Headquarters.
The National Cleaning Day is part of the government’s broader initiative to improve sanitation and encourage communities across the country to participate in keeping their surroundings clean. Authorities have urged the public to comply with the temporary movement restrictions and take part in the nationwide community cleaning exercise before normal activities resume at 10:00 a.m.
