Police in Serere District have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the alleged stabbing to death of his girlfriend, a Senior Four student.

The suspect, identified as Julius Lazarus Otim, a chapati maker in Ocaapa Town Council, is accused of killing 19-year-old Miriam Acam, a student of Serere Secondary School, during a violent incident on Saturday evening.

According to preliminary police reports, Acam had visited Otim at his residence in Ocaapa Central Ward at around 7:30 p.m. It is alleged that the two locked themselves inside the house before a dispute escalated into a fatal confrontation.

Witnesses say the couple was last seen together at about 7:00 p.m. Shortly afterward, neighbors raised an alarm after hearing a disturbance. Residents who responded reportedly found Acam collapsing at the doorway with serious injuries. She died moments later.

South Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Stephen Mukombe confirmed the incident, stating that the case has been registered at Serere Police Station as a suspected murder.

“We have one incident registered at Serere Police Station, a case of suspected murder by stabbing which occurred in Ocaapa Central Ward, Ocaapa Town Council,” Mukombe said.

Police officers visited and secured the scene, recovering a knife believed to have been used in the attack. The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue.

The killing has sparked grief and outrage within the school and the wider community, with leaders and residents calling for justice and urging young people to avoid violent confrontations.
