Police in Kazo district are investigating a suspected murder and attempted murder in which a 10-year-old girl was killed and her 28-year-old mother left critically injured following an attack at their home.
The deceased, Ahimbisibwe Shallona, a Primary Two pupil at Keicumu Maranatha Primary School, was allegedly attacked alongside her mother, Kyomugisha Juliet, at Keicumu II Cell, Keicumu Parish, Engari Sub-county, on Tuesday night, November 3, 2026.
Police have arrested a suspect, identified as Kamukama Aron, who is reportedly the surviving victim’s husband, in connection with the incident.
According to preliminary police investigations, at around 11:00pm, the suspect reportedly approached neighbours and informed them that there was a dead body at his home but did not disclose the identity of the deceased.

Alarmed by the information, the neighbours, led by the LC I chairperson, rushed to the home, where they found the girl dead and her mother lying beside her in a pool of blood and in critical condition.

A team of homicide investigators, Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCO), canine handlers and uniformed personnel, led by the Kazo District Police Commander, responded to the scene to commence investigations.
Police said a sniffer dog was deployed and tracked a scent trail to Star Clinic in Keicumu, where the suspect was found receiving medical attention.
Further investigations indicate that the suspect maintains a traditional shrine at his residence. Police also established that the woman had entered the marriage with a child from a previous relationship, who was killed in the incident.
Investigators also recovered a white bucket containing reddish-coloured water at the scene, which is suspected to have been used to wash off blood after the attack.
The bucket and other exhibits recovered from the scene have been taken into consideration as part of the ongoing forensic investigations.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigators await his full recovery to facilitate further questioning and establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
