The Police have arrested one National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter who was found with 400 T-Shirts bearing insightful messages. Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango identified the suspect as Isaac Kiwanuka who was found in possession of the T-shirts.
Onyango says Kiwanuka has been charged with Inciting Violence and he will be arraigned before the courts of law after thorough investigations.
“Kiwanuka’s arrest came after security agencies picked up intelligence information that there were political activists using the National Unity Platform under Kunga Uganda who were planning a civil action throughout the Country. They had gone ahead to print t-shirts and placards that they intended to use that day,” said Onyango in a press statement.
He added; “The white T-shirts bear insightful writings such as “Uganda Economic Protest, Kisoboka, Raise Up, Tunahitagi Uhuru, together we can, Kenagum ”. The purpose of the pending demonstration is to force the government to reduce prices for essential commodities and everybody is urged to participate in it regardless of political or religious affiliation since it is affecting each and every one. Their intention is to disturb the prevailing peace in the country. The group has been mobilizing people in the areas of Western Uganda, Mid-Western, Central and in Kampala.”
Onyango passed a warning to the members of the public not to participate in any illegal activities.
“Anyone who participates in any unlawful assembly will be arrested and charged to courts of law. We appeal to members of the public country-wide not to be lured into such unlawful activities,” he said.
