Police Shoot One Dead, Two Arrested During the Rescue of Kidnapped Egyptian Diplomat

The Police in Buloba on Mityana Road have shot one unidentified person and arrested two suspects during the rescue on Egyptian kidnapped diplomat.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Matropolitan Police spokesperson has identified the Egyptian diplomat as Muhammad Ali Abdul Amidu.

Police says that on November 8, 2024, Muhammad Ali, an Egyptian national and official at the Egyptian Embassy, was kidnapped by unidentified assailants at Zana on Entebbe Road and taken to an unknown location.

“The kidnappers demanded a ransom of $40,000, (sh146m) threatening to kill the victim if their demands were not fulfilled. The incident was reported to the Jinja Road Police Division where the officers from different security operatives swung into action searching for Abdul,” Owoyesigyire has narrated in a police press release.

He adds that following the gathered clues, the police through the Crime Intelligence Unit and the Directorate of Intelligence Services of the UPDF began tracking the suspects, monitoring their movements between various locations.

“On November 13, 2024, around 2:00 PM, officers intercepted the assailants while they were heading to Pearl Motel in Buloba, Wakiso district,” he said.

Police says that the kidnappers were traveling in a Toyota Noah, registration number UAZ 247S, which had three occupants.

However, police accounts that; “During the operation, one of the kidnappers was put out of action during a confrontation with the rescue force. Ali Mohammed was rescued unharmed. Currently, two suspects are in custody in connection to the kidnap.
