Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira and appointed Msgr. Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire, M.Afr., as the new Bishop of Kabale Diocese.
The appointment was announced by the Holy See on Tuesday, marking a leadership transition in the Catholic diocese following Bishop Rubaramira’s retirement. The outgoing bishop stepped down in accordance with Canon Law, which requires Catholic bishops to submit their resignation upon reaching the age of 75.
Bishop-elect Gubazire was born on March 3, 1974, in Kitumba, Kabale Diocese. He began his priestly formation at St. Paul’s Minor Seminary in Rushoroza before pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religious Studies at the Philosophy Centre in Jinja.
His appointment ushers in a new chapter for the Kabale Diocese as the Catholic Church in Uganda welcomes a new shepherd to lead the faithful. Bishop-elect Gubazire is expected to assume pastoral leadership of the diocese after the necessary canonical and liturgical processes are completed.
