Postmortem Fails to Establish Cause of MP Nakimuli’s Death, Further Tests Ordered

The cause of death of Kalangala Woman Member of Parliament, Hellen Nakimuli, remains unknown after a postmortem examination, with pathologists ordering further tests to determine what led to her sudden passing.

Nakimuli’s body was on Monday morning received by her family and leaders from the National Unity Platform (NUP) at Mulago City Mortuary, where the examination was conducted.

According to the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, the body had earlier been transferred from Alexandro Medical Center in Nakasero following her death.

“The pathologists say the cause of death has not been ascertained yet, but further tests are being carried out, including an assessment of the surgery that took place yesterday. They have informed us that a comprehensive report will be issued soon,” Ssenyonyi said.

The uncertainty surrounding the cause of death has deepened concern among colleagues, supporters, and constituents, many of whom have described Nakimuli as a dedicated and passionate leader.

Meanwhile, a detailed burial program has been released, outlining several days of mourning and tribute.

On Monday, April 20, funeral rites began with the cortege scheduled to depart for Kalangala via Nakiwogo in Entebbe, with the ferry set to leave at 2:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, April 21, leaders and residents in Kalangala District will hold a special district council session alongside a public viewing of the body.

The final send-off is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, with a requiem service at Namungoona Orthodox Church before her burial in Luweero District.

As investigations continue, the nation awaits a full medical report to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding Nakimuli’s death.
