Police in Mubende District are hunting suspected robbers who attacked three villages in Kitenga Sub-county, killing a couple, including a pregnant woman, injuring three other people and stealing motorcycles and mobile phones.

The attacks occurred in the early hours of Friday, October 9, 2026, in Lukaya and Kayanja villages, with the assailants reportedly armed with sharp and blunt objects.

According to Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Region Police Spokesperson, in Lukaya Village, the attackers broke into the home of Sserwanja Ivan, 29, and his pregnant wife, Nakalanzi Rose, 26, and killed them.

Kigozi said that couple’s bodies were discovered at about 10:00am by a neighbour, Kyarisima Loyce, after a child from a neighbouring home, Birimuye Rose, went to their house and received no response despite finding the door open.

“Kyarisima entered the house and found the couple lying lifeless in a pool of blood. Police were notified and a homicide team led by the Mubende District Police Commander visited the scene,” he said.

According to police, the bodies had multiple deep cut wounds on the heads. A blood-stained forked hoe was recovered as an exhibit, while the bodies were taken to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examinations.

Police introduced a sniffer dog to the scene, but heavy rain reportedly hampered the exercise. Investigators also documented the scene and recorded statements from witnesses.

The couple, who were coffee dealers, lost a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registration number UFZ 589C and two smartphones to the attackers. Police suspect the killings could have been financially motivated.

In another incident in Lukaya Village, Bugonzi Parish, Nalukenge Sophia, 40, was attacked at about 2:00am when she woke up to ease herself.

Police said an unidentified man dressed in black struck her on the head with a blunt object. She raised an alarm, waking her elder daughter, who also called for help from neighbours.

The attacker fled with three smartphones and one button phone, while Nalukenge was rushed to Royal Medical Clinic for treatment.

Investigators observed that the assailant had not broken into the house to gain entry. Police suspect he may have entered undetected and hidden inside the house or that the victim had not properly secured the premises.

In a separate attack in Kayanja Village, Nsengwe Parish, unknown assailants armed with a panga and a knife broke into the home of Tumwebaze Onesmus and his wife, Kukundakwe Agatha, during the night.

The couple sustained severe injuries before the attackers fled with two mobile phones.

The Mubende District Police Commander, SP Mugerwa Umar, visited the affected scenes and conducted community policing engagements as investigations got underway.

Kigozi said investigators had obtained leads that were being pursued by Mubende Police in collaboration with the Wamala Region Flying Squad Unit to identify and arrest the suspects.

Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as investigations into the attacks continue.
