Public Opinions said the recognition was not based on the physical size of a law firm, but on its commitment to international best practices and standards, observance of human rights principles, competence of lawyers and leadership of managing partners.

Public Opinions has recognised 100 law firms in Uganda with the Responsible Investment Global Award for 2026, citing their commitment to professional standards, quality legal services and responsible investment practices.

The firms were recognised on October 5, 2026, following a survey conducted by Public Opinions, a field-based organisation involved in responsible investment promotion, diplomacy and investment advisory, research and public awareness.

According to Public Opinions, 200 law firms were initially nominated, with 100 selected following a public voting process involving chief executive officers, business owners and Members of Parliament.

Public Opinions said the recognition was not based on the physical size of a law firm, but on its commitment to international best practices and standards, observance of human rights principles, competence of lawyers and leadership of managing partners.

Luzindana Adam Buyinza, the CEO and team leader of Public Opinions, said the organisation also considered firms’ commitment to corporate social responsibility, including pro bono work, as well as respect for workers’ rights, particularly those of female and junior legal professionals.

“We recognise the best 100 law firms in Uganda that support productive Corporate Social Responsibility (pro bono) and are dedicated to engaging female lawyers in all legal transactions,” Buyinza said.

The recognised firms were also assessed on their understanding of Uganda Vision 2040 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, tax compliance, quality of legal services, client loyalty and accountability, professional competence, leadership and fairness.

Among the firms recognised are K&K Advocates and AB & David, both named Best Corporate Law Firm; AF Mpanga Advocates, recognised for commercial litigation and advisory; MMAKS Advocates for commercial transactions; Kampala Associated Advocates for commercial litigation; and Birungyi Barata & Associates for taxation and legal advisory.

Other recognised firms include Byamugisha Advocates for constitutional and human rights law, Katende Ssempebwa & Company Advocates for banking and finance, ENS Uganda for corporate transactions and restructuring, Signum Advocates for international arbitration, and Tumwebaze Emmanuel Advocates & Solicitors as Best Law Firm in Western Uganda.

Public Opinions also recognised firms specialising in areas including natural resources, oil and gas, energy, fintech, intellectual property, land transactions, family law, employment, infrastructure, procurement, capital markets, private equity, taxation and regulatory compliance.

The organisation said Uganda had 1,333 law firms approved by the Law Council as of September 2025, from which the recognised firms were selected following its survey and assessment.

Public Opinions has been recognising companies, organisations and individuals since 2009 for their contribution to responsible investment, development and the attainment of Uganda Vision 2040 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

In May 2026, the organisation recognised Secretary to the Judiciary Pius Bigirimana as the Uganda Judicial Reforms Champion. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has also previously been recognised by Public Opinions as Uganda Peace and Development Champion.

Among lawyers previously recognised or accredited by Public Opinions are Edwin Karugire, Cephas Birungyi Kagyenda, Allan Shonubi, Justus Karuhanga, Apollo Nelson Makubuya, Usama Ssebuwufu, Enoch Barata, Francis Nshekanabo, Baker Mugaino and Kiryowa Kiwanuka.

Public Opinions said more than 300 companies and organisations have been accredited under its programmes, including Diamond Trust Bank, Roko Construction, the Electricity Regulatory Authority, the World Bank, USAID, the European Union, SMS Construction, Riley Packaging, Heifer International and Standard Chartered Bank.

The organisation said detailed profiles of the recognised law firms, together with their logos, will be included in the journal and published through its global portal.
