Security has announced a sh20m bounty on two men they believe are behind the two blasts that went off on Saturday night injuring one person.
In a statement released by the deputy UPDF spokesperson, Col Deo Akiiki, the two improvised explosive devices exploded in Kikubamutwe parish in Kabalagala and another in Nabweru, Nansana Municipality.
“The Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) that exploded in Nabweru was allegedly brought by two young men yesterday after hiring that house for three months and left a bag in the room where the explosion took place. The IED that exploded in Kabalagala was left at a veranda of a house in a busy street,” Col Akiiki said.
The army has since released two photos of men suspected to have been behind the two blasts and placed a sh20m bounty on their heads.
He said investigations into the matter continue but asked the general public to be vigilant and security conscious as the festive season approaches.
“The public has been also advised to put in place security measures especially on gatherings including bus and taxi parks, places of worship, discos, parties, lodges and bars etc.”
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire on Sunday said their teams responded to two separate incidents in the Kampala and Wakiso District that raised concerns within the community.
“In Mayor Zone, Kabalagala Parish, Makindye Division, at about 9:00 pm, a business premise specializing in frying chips experienced an incident that led to a blast. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported. Joy Nakasagga, the owner of the business, aged 23, sustained minor injuries but is currently in stable condition. Our expert teams are actively investigating the cause of the blast and updates on the findings will be communicated as soon as possible,” Owoyesigyire said.
He also revealed that “simultaneously, in Nabweru, our bomb squad and forensic services responded to a blast heard around 9:00 pm. The blast occurred in one of the unoccupied rentals. Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities were reported. Our team is diligently working to determine the cause of the blast, and further information regarding the next steps will be provided once investigations are complete.”
Police said while these incidents are under investigation, “we urge the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their communities. Your cooperation is crucial in maintaining the safety and security of our neighborhoods.”
