Security operatives have arrested three key suspects who are believed to have played a direct role in the abduction and murder of Rotarian Godfrey Wayengera, a finance director at Compassion International Uganda.

The three male suspects were arrested last week in a series of co-ordinated operations conducted across Mukono and Isingiro districts, according to security sources familiar with the probe.

“One of the suspects was picked up in Mukono, while the other two were apprehended in Isingiro district,” the source said.

The breakthrough comes days after the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) joined the hunt, following reports that the assailants were dressed in military-like uniforms and drove a Police-like pick-up truck.

According to sources, the suspects have reportedly confessed to being hired to murder Wayengera.

However, the reason behind the murder is yet to be established.

“Other suspects are still on the run and we are hunting for them, but we have made significant progress,” the source said.

The suspects, whose identities remain undisclosed for operational reasons, are currently being held at a high-security facility in Wakiso district, where they are undergoing intense interrogation.

Security sources say the suspects are providing critical information that could lead to additional arrests and a clearer understanding of the motive behind the gruesome killing.

Wayengera, 45, was abducted on the night of June 10, 2025, just as he approached his home in Nsuube cell, Mukono Municipality.

He was the founder of Beloved Daycare and Nursery School in Mukono, the head of laity at St. James Hannighton Church in Mukono diocese.
