Three District Officials Convicted of Forgery -Banned from Gov’t Offices

Three Hoima district officials will not serve in government positions for the next 10 years after they were convicted of forgery.

The officials were each sentenced to a cash fine of five million shillings on top of being banned from holding a public office within the next ten years.

Anti-Corruption Court Magistrate Joan Aciro convicted them on Wednesday and handed down the sentences on Friday.

The convicts were found guilty of charges of forgery after they forged executive committee minutes alleging that they had been authorized to hire out road equipment to private individuals whereas not.
The officials have been on trial since 2021.

They were arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit together with Police after a complaint alleging they had hired out district road equipment to a private businessman in Kiryandongo district.

The convicts are;

■ Benson Chiche, the vice-chairperson and councillor for Buhanika sub-county.

Jackson Magambo, the secretary for production and councillor for Kiginja sub-county.

Geoffrey Kumakech, th secretary for finance and councillor for Buseruka sub- county.

The district road construction equipment in question included a vibratory roller and grader.

Working together with Police, the matter was investigated and the equipment was recovered and handed over to the Ministry of Works and Transport.

In 2017, President Yoweri Museveni commissioned road equipment to enable districts construct their own roads.
