Police in Mukono district have shot dead two suspected cattle thieves who were intercepted while transporting cows in a Toyota Prado TV.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson says the suspected cattle thieves while on Gayaza-Kayunga road moving in a Toyota Prado TX registration number UAZ 797G were intercepted by police officers on a night patrol at Kalagi Trading but they refused to stop.

“On 14th May 2025, at around 3:00 AM, officers from Nagalama Police Station, while on routine patrol at Kalagi Trading Centre along Gayaza Road, noticed a Prado TX moving suspiciously. When signaled to stop, the vehicle instead sped off. A pursuit ensued, and the vehicle was intercepted at Nakasajja Trading Centre,” he said.

Owoyesigyire said that during the operation, some suspects fled while two of them sustained injuries and were pronounced dead on their way to the hospital.

He said that police successfully rescued three heads of cattle which are currently kept at Naggalama Division Police headquarters as they wait for their owners to claim them.

“Efforts are currently underway to ascertain the identities of the suspects who fled the scene. The bodies of the deceased suspects remain unidentified and are currently at the City Mortuary pending postmortem examination,” he added.

He commended the officers of Naggalama Police for their vigilance and swift response.
