Masaka High Court Judge, Victoria Nakintu Katamba has convicted and sentenced two witchdoctors to life imprisonment after finding them guilty of sacrificing a one-year-old girl.

Peter Makumbi Kiseegu (77) together with his accomplice, Denis Kabuye were on Tuesday sentenced to a life sentence for sacrificing Passy Mirembe.

The duo committed the offence on October 23, 2017 at Kayugi cell in Nyendo-Mukungwe division in Masaka City. The deceased was a daughter to Moses Kalangwa and Immaculate Nakato who are residents of the same village.

The judge said that the court had been convinced by the evidence presented by the prosecution side pinning Makumbi and Kabuye for having committed the offense.

Though the prosecution had asked for a death sentence, highlighting the situation through which the innocent girl was brutally killed with some of the body parts stolen saying the convicts were supposed to get a grave sentence which would deter others from practicing the same offense.

However, the defense lawyer, Alexander Lule Makumbi pleaded otherwise saying one of the convicts, Makumbi was of old age, with four wives and 70 children whom he was supposed to fend for, hence asking for a lenient sentence.

However, the Judge objected to the prosecution side’s plea of a death sentence and instead served the duo with a life sentence.

Makumbi had served as witchdoctor for some time and he is remembered to have had the Masaka tycoon Godfrey Kato Kajubi who was also sentenced to life over human sacrifice decades ago as one of his clients.
