The International Crimes Division High Court has convicted Daniel Kisekka, a resident of Nsava village in Kayunga district of the 2015 murder of Assistant DPP Joan Kagezi Namazzi.

Kisekka has been convicted following his own plea of guilty, a development which resulted from a plea bargain deal he struck with the Office of the DPP to accept murder charges in exchange for a lenient punishment.

In exchange, the prosecution dropped terrorism charges against Kisekka and amended the indictment to a plea of guilty to murder charges.

In return, the High Court has sentenced Kisekka to 35 years in prison. However, he will serve 34 years owing to the one year he has spent on remand.
