The release further added that although there are squatters illegally occupying the land around the Kabaka’s land, their eviction will be executed in following with set legal methods.
Ongoing rehabilitation of Kabaka’s Lake Road adjacent to the Kabaka’s lake undertaken by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) is part of the authority’s responsibility to keep the city clear roads, and there is no element of truth in speculation that the land surrounding the lake has been sold off.
This clarification has been made through a press release by the Mengo government Katikkiro (Prime Minister) Charles Peter Mayiga following misconceived statements that the land has been sold to various individuals including Pastor Robert Kayanja of the Robert Kayanja Ministries.
Mayiga explained in a statement that although Mengo has an understanding with Pr. Kayanja about the issue, there is no well spelt out sale conclusion regarding the Kabaka’s lake, stressing further that Buganda kingdom has never concluded any sale arrangement on part of or all of the land around the lake.
However, he added, the kingdom has a concrete plan to clear Kabaka’s lake to save it from extinction, but this plan is to be executed in accordance with set regulations based on the importance of the lake.
The release further added that although there are squatters illegally occupying the land around the Kabaka’s land, their eviction will be executed in following with set legal methods.
He thanked KCCA for the arrangement to give the road around the lake a face lift, and we are hopeful that this will step up the lake’s dignified outlook and will give an impetus to tourism attraction, with tourists accessing the lake more easily.
The Mengo premier appealed to people in Buganda to remain calm, as the Kabaka’s lake has never been put up for sale, and that no single individual has even been given authority to look after it.
