Passengers of a Link Bus traveling from Kasese to Bweyale watched a scene of drama when the driver and conductor of a Link Bus decided to abandon it and fled after they were intercepted by the traffic police.
The incident happened at Buswekere along the Hoima-Fort Portal Road. According to Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police Spokesperson, the traffic police in Hoima are hunting for an unidentified driver together with the conductor of a Link Bus, UBK 989Z, after they were found carrying passengers in excess.
Kananura said that this followed a passenger who was traveling in a bus from Kasese to Bweyale who got concerned, recorded a video clip and pictures of an overloaded bus and shared them on social platforms, alerting police authorities to the dangerous behavior.

“Acting on the tip, we tracked the bus & intercepted it at Buswekere along the Hoima–Fort Portal Road. However, the driver & conductor abandoned the bus & fled,” he said.
He commended the action taken by the passenger who raised the alarm and urged all passengers to remain vigilant & responsible, especially in such a period.
“Protecting lives on our roads is a collective responsibility,” Kananura urged.
