Four Rustlers Killed as UPDF Troops Recover 30 Stolen Cattle

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 5 Infantry Division has recovered over 30 cattle herds in a security operation in East Acholi, foiling cattle rustling attempts.

The operation, part of Dumisha Usalama campaign, saw four-armed Karamojong warriors neutralised and recovery of arms, including an AK-47 rifle.

Major General Keith Katungyi assured communities of continued protection, vowing to sustain operations against cattle rustling and insecurity. The UPDF reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in East Acholi.

The operation was carried out under the wider security campaign codenamed Dumisha Usalama and took place between Monday, 2 February, and Wednesday, 4 February 2026. It covered the general areas of Lokokwai in Kitgum District, Amita Village in Abim District, and Loborom Village in Agago District.

The Commander 5 Infantry Division, Major General Keith Katungyi, assured communities within the division’s area of responsibility of continued protection, noting that sustained operations would be maintained to deter cattle rustling and other forms of insecurity.

He said that heightened vigilance by the forces has ensured that no livestock is stolen, with all animals in the affected areas secured without loss.

The UPDF reaffirms its commitment to sustaining operations aimed at maintaining peace and stability in East Acholi.
