Three people have been arrested following a brazen daytime attack captured on CCTV near Gwanda Shopping Mall in Kisenyi, a bustling commercial hub in the heart of Kampala.
The viral footage, widely shared on social media, shows a lone pedestrian being intercepted and violently assaulted by a group of suspected thieves before being robbed. The incident occurred near Gwanda Shopping Mall, close to the busy Kisenyi Taxi Park, an area teeming with wholesalers, traders, and commuters at nearly all hours of the day.

“Three suspects in connection with the viral CCTV video circulating on social media, which shows a man being attacked, allegedly at Gwanda Shopping Mall in Kisenyi, near the Kisenyi Taxi Park, have been arrested,” Musoke said.
He added that two additional suspects have been identified and are currently being pursued. Authorities have launched a manhunt as investigations continue, with more details expected to be released in due course.
The footage paints a disturbing picture: rather than a swift snatch-and-run theft, the attackers physically assaulted the victim in broad daylight before taking his belongings. The incident has sparked concern among business owners and commuters who frequent the area daily.
Kisenyi, situated within Kampala’s Central Division just south of the main business district, presents unique policing challenges. The neighborhood’s dense population, proximity to the taxi park, and maze of informal settlements with narrow alleys often hinder patrol operations and rapid response efforts.
As a key commercial and transport hub, Kisenyi hosts wholesale markets and experiences heavy commuter traffic throughout the day. While this vibrancy fuels economic activity, it also complicates surveillance and crime prevention strategies.
Police have appealed to members of the public to come forward with any information that could aid the ongoing investigation, underscoring their commitment to bringing all those involved to justice.
