Police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke said the suspects will be processed in accordance with the law once investigations are complete.
Police and sister security agencies have arrested three suspects in connection with the kidnapping of two children from Bujowali Zone in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District.
The arrests were made on Thursday, September 17, 2026, during a joint security operation that also led to the recovery of a firearm suspected to have been used in criminal activities.
The suspects have been identified as Odongo Richard, Derick Nkuruziza and Kasaija Dan. Police said Kasaija is alleged to have been the overall commander of the group and was responsible for receiving and withdrawing ransom money in Kampala.
The case dates back to September 7, 2026, when two armed and masked men allegedly attacked the home of Mr Mugabanya in Bujowali Zone at about 7:00pm.
At the time of the attack, the children’s father was away, while the children were reportedly watching television under the care of domestic workers.
According to police, the attackers injured the domestic workers after they raised an alarm, confined them in a bedroom and fled with two of the children. The kidnappers later allegedly demanded sh100m as ransom.
A kidnapping case was subsequently registered, prompting a joint investigation and tracking operation by security agencies.
The operation eventually paid off on September 17 when the two children were recovered safely from Malindi Village in Wakisi Sub-county, Buikwe District.
Police are also investigating the three suspects over their alleged involvement in previous kidnapping incidents, including the abduction of a female school director in Njeru Municipality in May 2026.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, with security agencies working to identify and arrest any other people allegedly involved in the criminal network.
