A violent storm that swept through Bugamba Village in Rwampara District on Monday evening left Bugamba Integrated Primary School counting losses after the roof of one of its classroom blocks was blown off.
The heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds, struck the area suddenly, tearing iron sheets from the building and leaving the Nursery and Primary One classrooms completely exposed. By the time the storm subsided, parts of the roof lay scattered across the school compound while rainwater had soaked learning materials inside the classrooms.
Teachers and nearby residents rushed to the school shortly after the storm to assess the damage. Broken timber, twisted iron sheets, and debris covered the area where young learners usually sit for lessons.

“We were shocked to see the roof gone,” said one teacher who lives near the school. “These are the classrooms used by the youngest children. Now they have nowhere safe to study from.”
The destruction has disrupted learning activities at the school, with school administrators saying lessons for the affected classes may be suspended until temporary repairs are made.
The storm did not only affect the school. Several plantations and properties in Bugamba Sub-county, within Kibingo–Rweibogo Town Council, were also destroyed as strong winds flattened crops and damaged structures in the area.
Local leaders are currently assessing the full extent of the damage and are calling for support to help the school rebuild the damaged classrooms and assist affected residents.
Parents have expressed concern about the safety and welfare of the children, especially as the rainy season continues. Community members say they hope authorities and well-wishers will intervene quickly to restore the school so that the youngest learners can return to a safe learning environment.
