“We found her lying in a pool of blood. She was unconscious, so we rushed her to the hospital where she received medical attention,” Cissy said.
A former Bank of Uganda employee, Ruth Nambalirwa, narrowly survived death after being brutally attacked by her domestic worker in Njeru Municipality.
Nambalirwa, 64, a resident of Triangle Cell, was found on Tuesday lying unconscious in a pool of blood, with her hands and legs tied using ropes. Eyewitnesses reported that she had been stripped naked and sustained deep cuts on the head and other parts of her body.
The Ssezibwa Region Police Spokesperson, Hellen Butoto, identified the suspect as Gerald Kiweewa, who is currently on the run. Police say the suspect allegedly disconnected power from the victim’s home before carrying out the attack and fleeing with several items and an unspecified amount of money.
According to Nambalirwa’s son, James Batambuze, suspicion arose on March 18 after repeated attempts to reach his mother by phone failed—something he said had never happened before.

“After some time, I received a notification that my mother’s phone had been switched on, but when I called, no one answered. Shortly after, Kiweewa called me, saying he had left home and was heading back to Masaka. He hung up before I could question him further,” Batambuze explained.
Alarmed, Batambuze contacted a neighbor, identified as Aunt Cissy, and asked her to check on his mother. Upon arrival, she found the gate locked and received no response despite knocking. She then alerted the village chairperson, and together they contacted police.
Police officers responded and forcefully gained entry into the home, where they discovered Nambalirwa unconscious and severely injured.
“We found her lying in a pool of blood. She was unconscious, so we rushed her to the hospital where she received medical attention,” Cissy said.

Local leaders revealed that Kiweewa had worked in Nambalirwa’s home for over four years, and there had been no prior reports of conflict between him and the family.
Village chairperson Damian Buregeya confirmed the disturbing scene. “We found her with ropes tied around her hands and legs. There were also marks on her neck indicating that the attacker had attempted to strangle her,” he said.
Residents in the area have since raised concerns over increasing crime, citing a rise in incidents such as sexual assault, livestock theft, robbery, and nighttime house break-ins.
Police say investigations are ongoing and a manhunt for the suspect has been launched.
