Seven Killed, 16 Injured in Nwoya Bus Crash After Overtaking Attempt

Eyewitnesses onboard the bus allege that the driver had been speeding and driving recklessly throughout the journey. Passengers reportedly raised concerns about his conduct, but these allegations were dismissed by the conductor.

At least seven people have died following a fatal road crash in Lapok Mor Village, Nwoya District, in the early hours of Monday morning.

The accident occurred at approximately 1:15 AM on May 4, 2026, involving a passenger bus belonging to Nile Star Coaches and a Benz Actros trailer.

According to preliminary police findings, the Isuzu bus, registration number UBP 736U, was traveling from Arua when the driver attempted to overtake two vehicles ahead. In the process, the bus collided head-on with an oncoming trailer, registration SSD 040A/SSD 498C.

Four passengers died instantly at the scene, while 16 others sustained injuries and were rushed to Anak Hospital for treatment. Authorities later confirmed that three more victims succumbed to their injuries, raising the death toll to seven.

The bus driver, identified as Abugo Mandella Kadin, has since been taken into police custody as investigations into the crash continue.
