In an official communication to the student body, Nasasira confirmed that Arinda, a student in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, had last been seen on April 21, as reported by his roommates.

The Guild President of Makerere University, Gracious Kadondi, has expressed frustration over what she described as inaction by both police and university authorities, 11 days after the disappearance of a student.

In a statement shared via her official X (formerly Twitter) account, Kadondi criticized the lack of communication and urgency surrounding the case of Arinda Freedom, a first-year student who reportedly went missing from Nsibirwa Hall.

“11 days since Arinda Freedom disappeared from Nsibirwa Hall. No police update. No serious search from the University. Is this how we protect students?” Kadondi wrote, calling on authorities to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.

According to guild leadership, the disappearance was formally brought to the university’s attention on April 29 by Owen Nasasira, the Minister for Students Affairs. In an official communication to the student body, Nasasira confirmed that Arinda, a student in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, had last been seen on April 21, as reported by his roommates.

Despite the formal notification and the passage of more than a week since the announcement, student leaders say there has been no visible response from either the university administration or the police.

The guild is now urging both the university and security agencies to intensify efforts to locate the missing student, warning that delays could worsen the situation. Students have also been encouraged to share any information that could assist in tracing Arinda’s whereabouts.

The incident has sparked concern among the student community, with growing calls for improved safety measures and faster institutional response in cases involving student welfare.
