Police in Kyenjojo District are holding a 40-year-old man in connection with the suspected murder of his partner, whose remains were recovered from his home.
The suspect, identified as Richard Mwesige, was arrested on Saturday, May 2, in Kihara Cell, Kyarusozi Town Council, following a tip-off from residents. The arrest was confirmed by Rwenzori West regional police spokesperson Vincent Twesige.
The case stems from the disappearance of Lukia Karungi, 35, who had reportedly not been seen for about six weeks. Karungi, a resident of the same area, was in a relationship with the suspect and the two share a child.

Local leaders raised concern over her prolonged absence and the suspect’s alleged suspicious behaviour. The matter was reported to Kyarusozi Police Station by the area LC I chairperson, prompting a search of Mwesige’s residence.
