“I managed to escape at the time my wife was arrested. I would have stayed and saved her, but I had to survive and take care of our children,” Nsubuga said.

Chaos erupted in Masaka after armed men reportedly whisked away Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere during celebrations held shortly after her swearing-in ceremony.

The dramatic incident allegedly unfolded at Hotel Brovad, where supporters had gathered to celebrate the legislator’s political milestone. Witnesses described scenes of panic and confusion as heavily armed men stormed the venue and forcefully removed Nameere.

Her husband, Hamza Kennedy Nsubuga, said he narrowly escaped arrest during the operation, revealing that he fled moments before the armed men captured his wife.

“I managed to escape at the time my wife was arrested. I would have stayed and saved her, but I had to survive and take care of our children,” Nsubuga said.

According to Nsubuga, the men involved in the operation were believed to be UPDF soldiers traveling in a drone vehicle registration number UA 857 AG.

He further claimed that Nameere’s Special Forces Command (SFC) bodyguard was disarmed while trying to resist the operation. The confrontation reportedly left at least three people injured as supporters and security personnel struggled to understand what was happening.

Nsubuga also accused police officers deployed at the venue of failing to intervene during the incident despite the chaos that unfolded.

In an emotional appeal, he called on President Yoweri Museveni to intervene, saying Nameere had worked tirelessly to mobilize support for the ruling party in Masaka.

“I appeal to President Museveni because your fighter in Masaka, who worked hard to secure victory for you, has been abducted while celebrating after swearing in,” he stated.

However, Greater Masaka Regional Police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye said police had not received any official information regarding the alleged arrest or abduction.

The incident has sparked concern among supporters and residents in Masaka, with many questioning the circumstances under which the MP was allegedly taken and the apparent security lapse at the high-profile event.
