The Minister for Local Government, Balaam Barugahara, has appealed to members of the public to help security agencies trace the whereabouts of Bulambuli Town Council Assistant Engineering Officer, Eng. Simon Okiror, who is reportedly on the run.
According to the minister, Okiror disappeared as investigations intensified into the alleged misappropriation of sh500m in public funds that had been allocated for the construction of a bridge linking Bulambuli Town Council to Bukhaku Sub-county in Bulambuli District and Buku and Mui sub-counties.
Authorities allege that the bridge project was either poorly executed or left in an impassable state despite the substantial amount of public money reportedly being spent on its construction.
