Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Sam Omalla has passed away at Mulago Hospital on Monday morning after a battle with cancer since 2020.
Afande Omalla was admitted at Mulago last week, according to his son, Sam Omalla Junior.
Omalla, a polarizing figure during the 2011 Walk-to-Work protests led by Dr. Kizza Besigye, served as Kampala North Operations Commander and was often accused of harassing opposition activists.
His death marks the end of a controversial yet impactful career in Uganda’s security sector.
Omalla Junior on Sunday refuted the allegations of his father’s death though confirming that he was critically ill.
