Reflecting on their journey, James revealed that he met Betty while they were fellow members of staff at Mpoma Girls School more than 25 years ago.
For more than 25 years, Betty Namukasa and James Omonyi have shared love, family, work and life together. Now, the proprietors of St. James Nursery and Primary School have finally made their relationship official in a Catholic wedding celebrated in the presence of hundreds of relatives, friends and well-wishers.
The long-time lovebirds exchanged marriage vows at St. Andrew Kaggwa Kichwa Mpoma Catholic Church, where they pledged to love, honour and remain faithful to each other through good times and bad, sickness and health, for the rest of their lives.
The ceremony was presided over by Rev. Fr. Denis Kibirige, who blessed their union and reminded them of the sacred nature of marriage.

After the couple declared their consent to marry, Fr. Kibirige affirmed their commitment with the words: “What God joins together, let no one put asunder.”
The couple then exchanged wedding rings as a symbol of their love, fidelity and lifelong commitment.
During the homily, Fr. Vincent Wasswa, who said he has known Betty and James for many years, praised them for their dedication to serving God and the community through their work as teachers and parents.
“It has been so long; however, I am happy that at last, James has decided to bring before God his lifelong love partner and transform their love into spiritual love,” Fr. Wasswa said, prompting jubilations and ululations from the congregation.
He also jokingly urged parents to marry before their children, saying it would be an “international shame” for children to take holy matrimony before their parents.
The celebrations later moved to Eco Country Resort Gardens in Mpoma, where the newlyweds hosted their guests to a colourful reception.
In her speech, Betty thanked James for finally fulfilling his long-standing promise to marry her.
James, meanwhile, praised his wife for being loving, supportive, developmental and encouraging throughout their years together.

“We have been together for now 25 years, having picked her from my fellow members of staff at Mpoma School, way back. I thank God that even when I would be another opportunity to choose a woman I am to stay with, I would still choose her because she has been so good to me, our children and family members,” he said.
After 25 years of love, family and shared memories, Betty and James have now taken their relationship to another chapter—husband and wife, officially joined together before God.
