Eastern region leaders welcoming President Museveni.

Busoga Journalists Report to Museveni Forest Reserve Grabbing Leaders

President Museveni has given an express order for the arrest of leaders implicated in the grabbing of South Busoga Central Forest Reserve at Malongo and Kityerera in Mayuge district, and unconditional cancellation of land titles acquired thereon.

Museveni also promised to start on a process of empowering fishermen to conduct policing activities on the lake themselves, saying he is beginning the process in May.

He was last week interacting with journalists operating in Busoga region at Kityerera State Lodge, during his ongoing regional tour of Busoga.

He was reacting to a report to the effect that unnamed local leaders had parcelled out to themselves land in South Busoga Central Forest Reserve which he had given to locals to use for agricultural production.

They also requested him to decisively deal with UPDF soldiers said to be terrorising fishermen, and to help youths in Busoga ghetto to improve their livelihood. He directed police officer Susan Kasingye to follow up this matter and enforce his directive.

On the issue of construction of public markets at Amber Court and Iganga, he said he has already directed concerned authorities to begin on the work, and directed his private secretary to liaise with the Ministry of Finance to establish how far the process has got. He also promised to help youths of Busoga ghetto.

The president told the media practitioners that the government has embarked on the phase of improving public transport to boost the existing system, adding that plans for laying the standard gauge railway (SGR) providing ships and ferries are underway.

Museveni attacked media outlets especially radio stations for dancing to the tunes of people paying them to distort government programmes, and asked them to stop circulating lies but be factual in their reports. He made a sh100m donation and a minibus to the journalists.

He also commissioned Nakabango Presidential Skilling Hub and addressed a public gathering, and later met leaders at Mayuge district headquarters.
