Four Arrested Over Murder of Mukono Health Worker as Outrage Grows Over Rising Crime

Police in Mukono District have arrested four suspects in connection with the killing of radiography specialist Peter Mubiru, a case that has sparked public outrage and renewed concern over rising violent crime in the area.

Mubiru, a medical worker attached to Happy Doctors Medical Centre in Seeta, was attacked on Sunday evening while returning home. Preliminary reports indicate that assailants riding on a motorcycle ambushed him at around 7:30 pm in Bagala Zone, Goma Division, Mukono Municipality.

He was struck on the head with a paver stone, leaving him with severe injuries. His property including a laptop, mobile phone and unspecified amount of money.

Following intelligence-led operations, officers from the Kampala Metropolitan Police arrested four suspects believed to have been involved in the attack. They have been identified as Abubaker Mususwa, Joshua Olowo, George Muyanja, and Umar Basibu.

Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the arrests, noting that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing and to determine whether additional suspects may have been involved.

“We have so far arrested four suspects in connection with the murder, and investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the attack, as well as identify any other individuals who may have been involved,” Owoyesigyire said.

He added that investigators are gathering further evidence, including forensic analysis and a postmortem report, to strengthen the case ahead of prosecution. The suspects remain in custody and are expected to face charges of murder and aggravated assault once investigations are complete.

The killing has sent shockwaves through Mukono, particularly among health workers and residents of Goma Division, who described Mubiru as a dedicated professional committed to saving lives. Community members have also raised concerns about increasing violent attacks, especially those involving assailants using motorcycles.

Police have appealed to the public to provide any information that could assist in identifying any remaining suspects or clarifying the circumstances surrounding the attack as investigations continue.
