The investigations into Anita Among have intensified in recent weeks, with security agencies widening their inquiries into her wealth, property, and conduct while in public office.

Presidential Advisor Jennifer Nakanguubi, popularly known as Full Figure, has criticized security agencies investigating former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, saying the manner in which the probe is being conducted is humiliating and disrespectful.

Full Figure argued that, given Anita Among’s status and position in the country, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) should have handled the matter discreetly instead of publicly exposing her.

“Among has been a high-profile figure in the country and one of the top leaders of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party. Exposing her to this extent leaves committed party members and public servants disillusioned,” the presidential advisor said.

She questioned why investigators allegedly alert media personnel and TikTok content creators before visiting Among’s residences, saying the actions have turned the senior NRM leader into “a laughing stock.”

“I see no reason why, whenever investigating officers visit Among’s residences, they first alert media personnel and TikTokers, which ends up making our leader a laughing stock. That is very unfortunate, especially considering the stature of Anita Annet Among, a member of the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC),” Full Figure said.

She added that such public operations could jeopardize the integrity of ongoing investigations.

Anita Among is currently under intense scrutiny over allegations of corruption, illicit enrichment, money laundering, and abuse of office following mounting pressure and reported directives from President Yoweri Museveni.

A joint task force comprising officers from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and military intelligence reportedly carried out searches at several of her residences located in Nakasero, Kigo, Ntinda, and Bukedea. During the operations, investigators are said to have impounded a number of luxury vehicles, including a customized Rolls-Royce Cullinan believed to be linked to the former Speaker.

Investigators also reportedly sealed off Among’s parliamentary office as well as offices within the Finance Department in a move aimed at securing electronic gadgets, safes, and accountability records considered vital to the ongoing probe.

The pressure surrounding the investigations is also said to have influenced political developments within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party. Amid growing scrutiny and what insiders describe as increasing isolation within party circles, Among formally withdrew her bid for re-election as Speaker of Parliament.

The former Speaker has previously faced international sanctions imposed by both the United States and the United Kingdom over allegations related to corruption and human rights abuses, further amplifying public attention on the current investigations.

Meanwhile, the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) is handling petitions seeking comprehensive forensic and financial audits into Among’s assets and sudden accumulation of wealth. Despite the ongoing investigations and heightened public interest, no formal criminal charges have yet been filed against her before the Anti-Corruption Court.
