Reports implicating Agasirwe in the murder of former lead prosecutor in the case of the murder of Muslim Sheikhs are not new according to Kayihura, who said that the CMI compiled a report pinning Agasirwe.

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen. Edward Kale Kayihura has denied having recruited Kagezi murder suspect, Nixon Agasirwe into the police force as alleged, and clarified that when he joined the force as IGP in 2005, he found Agasirwe in office in the then Violent Crime Crack Unit (VCCU) which had replaced Wembley under the command of Maj. Gen. Elly Kayanja.

The ageing former army soldier further explained that Agasirwe was one of the 69 VCCU operatives working under David Magara, who was replaced by Aghasirwe as head of the VCCU which had metamorphosed into the Rapid Response Unit (RRU), and later became the Flying Squad still under Agasirwe.

In a televised interview with NBS in the programme titled ‘Face Off’ on Sunday, Kayihura also vehemently denied having had a hand in the killing of former police spokesperson AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi, arguing that the deceased was his (Kayihura’s) right hand man and that because of the trust he had in him, he assigned him the duty of opening up Kabalye Police Training Wing.

Reports implicating Agasirwe in the murder of former lead prosecutor in the case of the murder of Muslim Sheikhs are not new according to Kayihura, who said that the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) compiled a report pinning Agasirwe.

“This report was forwarded to President Museveni who recommended that it be forwarded to the American Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) for further management”, he narrated.

He however expressed gratitude to President Museveni for what he called accommodativeness and giving people an audience, adding that he himself faced problems when he was framed over certain criminal activities, but was exonerated after the President listened to him in his case and set him free on fighting him innocently.

Kayihura said he was taken aback on receiving the news of Kagezi’s murder because he explained she was very instrumental in the case of the murder of the twelve Muslim Sheikhs who, incidentally he noted, were all his colleagues and workmates in ensuring security prevails in the country.

Because of his close relationship with the murdered sheikhs, Kayihura this could have triggered their murder although he had assigned body guards to the dead men. “I was a close ally of the Muslims when I was IGP, for instance, Prince Kassim Nakibinge, , Haji Habib Kagimu and others were all my friends, and people citing my name in the murder of the Sheikhs are the same people implicating me in the murder of Andrew Felix Kaweesi”, he said.
