The government has suspended all school educational tours and trips across Uganda with immediate effect following the devastating road crash in Kapchorwa that claimed the lives of 20 pupils of King David Junior School, Ndejje, and the school’s director, Tadeo Ssekadde.

The directive has been announced by the Minister of State for Education and Sports, Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, who said all schools must immediately halt educational excursions until further notice.

The decision comes in the wake of the tragic accident that occurred as pupils were returning from an educational tour to Sipi Falls in Kapchorwa District. The crash left 20 children dead, alongside the school’s founder and director, Tadeo Ssekadde, while several other pupils sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.

Dr. Muyingo said the suspension is intended to safeguard learners as the government reviews the safety measures governing school travels. He urged all schools to strictly comply with the directive.

The Kapchorwa tragedy has sent shockwaves across the country, prompting widespread mourning and renewed calls for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations, especially for vehicles transporting schoolchildren.

Government officials have extended condolences to the bereaved families and the King David Junior School community, while wishing a speedy recovery to those injured in the crash.

The suspension of school trips is expected to remain in force until the Ministry of Education and Sports issues further guidance on measures aimed at ensuring the safety of learners during educational excursions.
