Hospital Staff Charged, Remanded Over Possession of Gov’t Stolen Property

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit working together with the Crime Investigation Department on Friday arraigned before Makindye Chief Magistrates Court a member of staff at Kiruddu Hospital on charges of possessing suspected property and unlawful possession of government stores.

Court identified the suspects as Tumukugize Darlington, a biomedical engineer at Kiruddu National Referral Hospital.

It is alleged that the accused, Tumukugize being a biomedical engineer at Kiruddu Hospital and the in charge of verifying some of the medical supplies which are supplied at the hospital, has allegedly been pressuring suppliers to buy medical equipment from his agents, including his wife’s company, Kamedi Tech Health Care & Hospital Supplies.

It is also alleged that after receiving the supplies, Tumukugize has been returning some of them back on the market for his private gain.

Upon his arrest, Tumukugize was allegedly found in possession of twenty pieces of wall oxygen single flow meters and four hospital mattresses with labels of Kiruddu National Referral Hospital and Mulago National Referral Hospital. Tumukugize was remanded until May 14, 2024.
