Balaam Confirms Arrest of District Engineer Over Alleged Financial Loss and Negligence

The arrest comes amid continued government efforts to strengthen accountability and crack down on corruption, negligence, and the mismanagement of public funds in local governments across the country.

The Minister for Local Government, Balaam Barugahara, has confirmed the arrest of the Mbale District Engineer over allegations of causing financial loss to the government through negligence and failure to properly supervise a road construction project.

 

According to the minister, Eng. Robert Nakimoro was arrested by a joint investigations team and is currently in custody as investigations into the matter continue.

 

In a statement posted on his X account, Balaam said the engineer is accused of causing financial loss to the government through negligence and inadequate supervision of the road project, although he did not disclose the specific project under investigation or the amount of money allegedly lost.

The minister warned that the investigations would not stop with the district engineer, noting that any other officials found culpable would also be held accountable in accordance with the law.

 

“Eng. Robert Nakimoro, the District Engineer for Mbale District, has been arrested by a joint investigations team over allegations of causing financial loss to the Government through negligence and failure to properly supervise a road project. He is currently in custody as investigations continue, and any other officials found culpable will be held accountable in accordance with the law,” Balaam said.

 

He stressed the government’s commitment to safeguarding public resources, adding that officials entrusted with managing taxpayer funds must be held accountable for their actions.

 

The arrest comes amid continued government efforts to strengthen accountability and crack down on corruption, negligence, and the mismanagement of public funds in local governments across the country.

 

Authorities have not yet disclosed when the suspect will be formally charged in court, as investigations

remain ongoing.
