While many sitting MPs are possibly buried in contemplations of the way forward after the humiliating losses, many former ‘Honourables’ are back in action, and swearing to begin from where they ended when they were ejected in previous election rounds.
AGENDA 2026: JOY AND TEARS AT THE FINAL COUNT OF THE NRM PARLIAMENTRY IN-HOUSE ELECTIONS “Factors surrounding losses and wins”
Scores of politicians countrywide are counting losses, while many more are engaged in dusk-to-dawn celebration binges and, worse still, some are nursing inflictions after engaging in king sized physical confrontation.
And the worst bit is that in campaign rounds preceding the elections proper, the country was treated to nasty incidents of loss of human lives, all in the name of seeking mandate to represent Ugandans in the august house.
The only consolation is that we have put all that behind us, and the most reliable prayer is that God diverts Ugandans’ minds from possible recurrence of the nasty deeds in the bigger engagement in 2026, where we shall witness Ugandans of more diversified ideologies coming together for a similar purpose.

While many sitting MPs are possibly buried in contemplations of the way forward after the humiliating losses, many former ‘Honourables’ are back in action, and swearing to begin from where they ended when they were ejected in previous election rounds.
In this category are people like former State Minister for Water, Ssalongo Ronald Kibuule of Mukono North who terribly embarrassed her two contenders Kyampisi LC 3 councillor Martha Kakai and the little-known Harriet Mutibwa who many say was ‘imported’ from far east to specifically give Kibuule a red nose.
Others include former Attorney General and Nakawa MP, Fred Ruhindi, David Mutebi in Buikwe South, former Lugazi legislator, Isaac Mulindwa Ssozi, former Busujju MP Vincent Nyanzi who has been out for two terms, Dennis Namara in Buyaga West, and Amelia Kyambadde in Mawokota North.
Kyambadde was in 2021 ejected by one of his campaigners, a popular artiste Hilary Kiyaga aka ‘Dr. Hilderman Mazongoto’.
President Museveni Pledges One Billion Per Ghetto Structure in Kampala
The family of former security minister Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja won a double victory when he was returned unopposed in Kalungu East, and his daughter Justine Nameere took the Masaka Woman MP seat.
The 1st Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for East African Community Affairs Minister, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga is among the people who are jubilating. Apart from registering success for her Kamuli woman MP slot, all the contestants who are rallying behind her in the battle to retain the CEC position of the 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) in the Busoga region triamphed and those who sided with her competitor, the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among did not sail through.
The Big Losses
Humiliated ministers include, the State Labour Minister, David Bahati (Ndorwa West), State Minister for Agriculture, Fred Bwino Byakulaga (Kigulu North), State Minister for Transport, Musa Ecweru (Amuria), State Minister for Bunyoro Affairs, Jennifer Namuyangu (Kibuku Woman), and a host of others.
Former Minister Agnes Nandutu lost to Khianza Agnes Shiuma for Bududa District Woman Member of parliament. However, Nandutu rejected the results and plans to run as an independent in 2026.

What drove voters into such bold stands?
Kyaggwe TV conducted an in-depth survey and established several and varied reasons that may have led voters to change heart and take second thoughts before casting their ballot.
. Absenteeism; not from the house but from the constituencies. Ministers have the undoubted excuse of having too many state duties which they say keep them detached from the voters, and in the circumstances giving opponents a leeway to vigorously campaign all the time in an equaled manner.
. Overstay in business; A number of voters contend that their representatives have overstayed in parliament and so have run out of new ideas. A case in point is Lwemiyaga’s Theodore Ssekikubo who has been sustaining a fierce battle with his major contender, the retired UPDF officer, Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Rwashande. Ssekikubo has been a legislator since 2001, yet Musa Ecweru has been a legislator since 2006.
Mukono NRM Candidate Attempted to Steal Guns from Police, Says Deputy RDC
. The question of integrity. MPs with a record of questioned integrity including the former Karamoja Cabinet Minister and her State Minister, Mary Gorettu Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu respectively, had their validity questioned by voters not because they actually committed offences brought against them, but simply because they were somehow somewhere mentioned in connection to the misappropriated iron sheets meant for marginalized communities in Karamoja sub-region.
And in rather unfortunate incidences, some families sustained double losses, and many are questioning the degree of favour they enjoy with their gods. Ssembabule Women MP Mary Begumisa lost the seat to Pastor Florence Nambaziira, while her husband Wilber Begumisa lost to Anifa Kawooya in Mawogola West.
In a related incident, Hanifah Karadi lost the Kawempe North seat to Faridah Nambi, while her sister Safina Kenyangi lost Kampala Woman slot. In Lwengo district, Dr. Twaha Kagabo who recently deserted the NUP in preference for the NRM, terribly lost to Haji Muyanja Mbabaali. Kagabo outrightly accepted the defeat.
Irregularities led to withholding of results in some constituencies
In some constituencies, results were not declared owing to irregularities that were involved in the voting and tallying processes. In Wakiso, the polling official in-charge of Busiro South did not submit results from Kasanje Town Council and, according to sources, his number was inaccessible. This drove the Wakiso Registrar, Shaban Kawooya to hold the declaration of the results and referred the matter to higher party authorities.
Amaziga mu kulonda kwa NRM e Mukono-poliisi ekubye omu ku bavuganya Ssenyonga bubi nnyo!!!
In the same light, the aspiring Woman MP, Rose Kirabira was dissatisfied saying there were plans hatched by the RDC’s office headed by the Assistant RDC James Karisema to rig the votes in favour of Kirabira’s opponent. A heated exchange ensued and the situation was saved by Wakiso DPC, Esther Kizza who intervened.
The situation from Mukono
Results from Mukono Municipality, where Andrew Ssenyonga ran with Dr. Daisy Sarah Ssonko Nabatanzi were held following chaos that ensued after a man suspected to have manipulated results from Goma Division was arrested at the tally centre and detained at Mukono police station.
Ssenyonga’s team mobilized a team of about 100 youths and they stormed the police to forcibly secure release of their man. Security people at police did not take matters sitting down and they harshly beat up the attackers including Ssenyonga himself.
At the end of the fracas, Ssenyonga and his younger brother, the Mukono district youth councillor, Lauben Ssenyonjo were admitted at Mukono Church of Uganda Hospital from where they were referred to Nsambya Hospital owing to aggravated nature of the injuries they sustained.
In the final count according to police sources, a total of 180 people countrywide were arrested in connection to engagement in different forms of law-breaking including youths carrying out acts of thuggery popularly known as ‘eggaali’, all geared at disrupting the elections, plus UPDF soldiers who involved themselves in the elections without being officially deployed.
