The Lugazi Catholic Diocese is mourning the loss of its Treasurer General, Fr. Anthony Gesuula, whose death was officially announced on Friday morning.

The diocesan chancellor, Fr. John Chrysostom Sserwadda, confirmed the priest’s passing, describing it as a profound loss to the Church and the faithful he served.

According to sources close to the diocese, Fr. Gesuula’s health challenges began during the Easter period when he sustained a leg fracture while working at his family home in Kayunga District. He reportedly stepped into an empty banana pit, leading to the injury.

Since the accident, he had been receiving treatment at a clinic in Gayaza. Fellow priests who visited him on Thursday evening said he appeared to be recovering well, making news of his sudden passing later that night all the more shocking.
