The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Felix Tshisekedi has been warned to pack and get going when the going is still good as his foes, the M23 rebels are swearing to take the capital of Kinshasa any moment.
This was contained in a press briefing addressed by rebel commander Cornellie Nangaa and M23 President Bertrand Bisimwa who told pressmen that taking Goma is only a tip of the iceberg because they have a bigger plan to take Kinshasa any moment.
“Goma and some parts of Eastern DRC have fallen into our hands and we have no plans to withdraw but rather intend to strengthen our hold, restore power supply, strengthen security and establish camps for displaced persons and others affected by the fighting,” the rebel commanders told the journalists.
Nangaa called on Goma residents who fled the fighting to return home because total peace has been restored in the town. Earlier, President Tshisekedi had dismissed the M23 fighters as a foreign occupational army, and cautioned them that DRC is an independent sovereign country and that he is going to dispatch a contingent to dispel them.
Tshisekedi had declined to attend the East African heads of state meeting seeking to restore peace in the DRC, but made a last minute decision to attend; all along through the meeting he was swearing to give the rebels and their sympathizers a bloody nose.
