A 45-year-old man is on the run after he allegedly assaulted his wife during a domestic dispute, leaving her with fatal injuries in Kitenga Sub-county, Mubende District.

The suspect, identified as Byaruhanga Daniel, a peasant and resident of Kabulooka Village, Gogonya Parish, allegedly attacked his wife, Kyarisima Merabo, 38, following a domestic disagreement that escalated into a fight at around midnight on July 6.

According to Wamala Regional Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi, the suspect allegedly beat his wife severely before rushing her to a dispensary in Kyenda Town Council when her condition deteriorated. He reportedly fled shortly after leaving her at the health facility.

Police said Merabo succumbed to her injuries at about 9:00 a.m. on July 7 while receiving treatment.

A murder case has since been registered at Mubende Central Police Station, and detectives from the Mubende homicide squad visited and documented the crime scene. Witness statements were recorded, while the deceased’s body was taken to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Police said the suspect remains at large, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.

Condemning the incident, SSP Kigozi said cases of domestic violence continue to claim lives across the region, with many linked to excessive alcohol consumption, substance abuse, poverty, mistrust, dishonesty and lack of respect among couples.

He urged spouses and couples to resolve disagreements peacefully and seek dialogue to maintain healthy family relationships and prevent avoidable loss of life.
