The Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Police in Mukono are investigating the sudden death of a health worker, identified as Paul Okurut, a 30-year-old clinical officer attached to Goma Health Centre III in Mukono Municipality.
According to the officer in charge of the facility, Dr. David Sserunjogi, Okurut reported for duty in the morning and carried out his duties normally. However, he is said to have later ordered medicine from outside the facility and administered it to himself through a cannula.
“We suspect the medicine could have caused his sudden death because among the items recovered from the scene was injectable diclofenac, which he is believed to have used through the cannula,” Dr. Sserunjogi said.
He added that the matter was immediately reported to police after Okurut was found unresponsive, and his body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for post-mortem examination.
